Red-Stick

It's official.  I made my first (of many) trips to Baton Rouge to visit Blake's extended family!  And not only was it my first trip with Blake to 'the Rouge', as I like to call it.......it was also my first time to an LSU game at Tiger Stadium.  Now coming from a true Sooner-"Sooner born and Sooner bred!!!"- this was an adventure that I knew was inevitable.  I welcomed it with open arms and pure excitement.  My honey is a die hard Tiger fan, born into a Tiger family and from the Tiger town.  He truly loves all things LSU and I have to say, it's one of the things I love about him....he has such dedication to the program.  But the even cooler thing is that he supports me and my Sooners!  Now don't ask me what will happen if OU faces LSU in a national championship again, haha.....we might have to watch the game in separate rooms (or buildings) :)  But until then I will support the Sooners AND the Tigers!!

However the weekend wasn't all football.  I had a long weekend so we decided to drive over to Baton Rouge on Thursday evening.  Our first stop in town was the local daiquiri shop- French Quarter.  Blake and his family love this place.  Louisiana is one place that knows how to make a dang good daiquiri AND you can take them to go....love it!  Friday was our first full day so we decided to enjoy a relaxing morning with some Starbucks and then head out to his grandparents house.  We were able to spend some time chatting with his grandma and grandpa in their cute home on a lake and then share a FABULOUS seafood lunch!  You know it's going to be a good meal when it starts with yummy oysters...delish.  And the good food didn't stop there!  Friday night we had dinner with Blake's dad's side of the family.  It was my first time meeting this side and everyone was wonderful.....such a lovely memorable dinner sharing family stories.  I am truly blessed to be a part of this amazing family.  Friday night we went out to have a good time at Brant's bar (Blake's brother).  What.a.blast!  We did not hold back and Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar did not disappoint.  I even witnessed bar goers taking shots with scorpions in them!!!! YUUUCK!!!  And when I inquired about what the heck was going on, the bartender mentioned that they also have shots with live goldfish!  I find this disturbing......and I am fairly certain I am not the only one?

Saturday was game day!!  This day was dedicated to all things football.  We arrived to an eatery/ bar on campus early in the day to get a great spot.  We enjoyed hanging out and watching other games as we prepared for the LSU game.  We were even lucky enough to hang out with Blake's Uncle Tim!  I love getting to hang out with Blake and his Uncle because they can banter back in forth in such a hilarious way.  As game time grew closer we walked up to the stadium and went in early so that we could see some of the warm ups.  Then LSU blew Idaho away, haha.

We came home to a fun conversation with Blake's family friend!  Thanks to Tad for hosting us and providing endless laughter!!!

My first trip to Baton Rouge was perfect.  It was just what I needed, a little getaway before I start my new job on Monday!  I accepted a job with Quorum Business Solutions and my first day is tomorrow.  This next step in my HR career is so exciting and a great opportunity!  So cheers to Monday......
